A patio is only as good as the base beneath it. We lay Indian sandstone, porcelain and natural stone patios across Newport and South Wales, on properly prepared foundations. Proper preparation, compaction and drainage help reduce the risk of movement, cracking and standing water.
Built from the ground up
Most patio problems come from a rushed base. We excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a proper sub-base, and bed every slab on a full mortar bed with the correct falls so rainwater runs away cleanly. Joints are pointed neatly and left to last.

How we build patios from the ground up
A lasting patio depends on the preparation beneath the paving, not only the slabs visible on completion.
The area is excavated to a suitable depth and an appropriately specified sub-base is installed and properly compacted. Where ground conditions require it, a suitable geotextile membrane is used to separate the ground and sub-base layers and help suppress growth from below.
The selected paving system is installed on the appropriate base or full mortar bed, with primer and jointing products used where required. Levels, falls and drainage are planned so water can move away appropriately.
We explain the preparation included in our quotation because a cheaper installation with insufficient excavation or sub-base may cost considerably more to correct later.

Sandstone or porcelain — which is better?
Indian sandstone is natural, warm and great value; porcelain is ultra-low-maintenance, stain-resistant and dead flat. We'll help you weigh up the look against the upkeep for your garden.
Why do some patios sink or pool with water?
Almost always a rushed sub-base or the wrong falls. We dig down properly, lay and compact a real sub-base and set the correct falls so rainwater runs off instead of sitting in puddles.
How long does a patio take to lay?
A typical domestic patio takes a few days, depending on size, access and how much groundwork is needed. We'll give you a realistic timeframe with the quote.
Can you add steps and edging too?
Yes. We build in steps, edging and the details that tie the patio into your lawn, paths and borders, so it feels like part of the garden rather than a slab dropped in.
