Planned as one project, not five jobs
The difference between a garden that works and one that feels like a collection of separate jobs is usually planning. When the patio, the decking, the fencing and the levels are all set out together, the finished garden lines up. When they are done by different people months apart, it rarely does.
We take the whole thing on: strip out what is there, sort the ground, then build back in the right order. You get one point of contact, one programme and one company standing behind the finished job.

How a garden project runs
A typical sequence is shown below, but the programme is adapted to the site, access, weather and work involved. The aim is to protect completed work and keep the project moving efficiently.
1. Look and price
We visit, measure up and talk through what you actually want from the space. You get a written price covering the whole project, broken down so you can see where the money goes.
2. Clear and prepare
Old fencing, slabs, concrete, decking and overgrowth come out and go away. Then the ground gets dug, levelled and prepared properly for whatever is going on top.
3. Hard landscaping
Patios, paths, decking, sleeper walls and raised beds go in on proper bases and frames, with the falls and levels set so water goes where it should.
4. Boundaries and gates
New fencing and matching gates go up once the heavy work is done, so posts are not knocked about by machinery and access stays open until the end.
5. Finishing
Turf, edging, borders and the small details that tie it together. This is the stage that decides whether the garden looks finished or nearly finished.
6. Clear the site
Where removal is included in the quotation, agreed waste and surplus materials are removed by Sonset Projects or an appropriately licensed waste carrier, and the working area is left tidy. We walk the finished garden with you before we leave.

This is how a larger garden usually comes together. Some elements are ours from start to finish, and where a specialist finish is called for we bring in someone appropriately experienced and coordinate them. You still get one quotation, one invoice and one person to ask.
One point of contact for the complete project
Fencing, gates, decking, patios and garden projects are at the heart of Sonset Projects, but we can also consider a wide range of suitable indoor and outdoor work by arrangement.
Harley assesses each project, plans what is required and remains the customer’s main point of contact. Depending on the project’s scope, timeframe and specialist requirements, the work may be completed personally by Harley, with additional team members, or by trusted and appropriately experienced tradespeople appointed and managed by Sonset Projects.
For projects involving several different elements, Sonset Projects can coordinate the people, materials and programme required. The customer receives one agreed quotation and invoice, with Harley overseeing the project and keeping them updated through to completion.
We don’t pretend that one person is qualified in every trade. Where specialist or regulated work is needed, an appropriately qualified professional is used. This allows each element to be completed properly while giving the customer one accountable point of contact.

What counts as a garden transformation?
Anything where the garden is being reworked rather than patched. Typically that means clearing what is there, sorting the levels, then putting in some combination of new fencing, gates, decking, patio, paths, sleepers, raised beds and turf. If you are changing the shape of how the garden works, that is a transformation.
Do you handle the whole project or just parts of it?
The whole thing, and that is rather the point. Fencing, gates, decking, patios and the groundwork underneath all sit with one point of contact, so the levels line up, the finishes match and nobody is waiting on somebody else's trade to turn up.
In what order does the work happen?
Clearance first, then ground preparation and levelling, then the hard landscaping such as patios, paths, decking and sleeper walls, then boundaries and gates, and finally turf, edging and planting beds. Doing it in that order stops finished work being walked over or dug up again.
How long does a full garden take?
Most take one to three weeks on site depending on size, access, how much muck has to come out and how much hard landscaping is going in. We will give you a realistic programme with the quote and tell you which parts depend on the weather.
Can the work be done in stages?
Yes, and plenty of customers do it that way to spread the cost. We will plan the whole garden up front so the stages fit together, then do the groundwork and boundaries first and come back for the decking, paving or turf later.
